Many dodger fans do not know this cool ritual performed by umpires at dodger games. Enter the dodger dog. in the bottom of the 7th inning, if the final out is a strikeout, the umpire will yell DODGER DOG! And will then be handed a dodger dog (hotdog)and he will quickly eat the hot dog and yell DODGER DOG a few times over. This is seen only a handful of times per year and is a true crowd pleaser when the occasion arises. The tradition dates back to 1981 when a child tossed a hot dog at one of the players and would shout "DODGER DOG" the umpire then mocked the child by mimicking him and the gesture was over with the crowd.
