LOS ANGELES >> Think of this as Brock Stewart's gap year. The 25-year-old right-hander has a bright enough future as a starting pitcher that the Dodgers deflected attempts to get him included in trades this offseason. But he has thrown just 22 1/3 innings and made only four starts this season - three in Triple-A and one in the Class-A California League - after starting the year in extended spring training because of a sore shoulder.
